Short story by Tariq Rehman

Title significance:

Dr Tariq Rehman is an eminent writer in the field of Pakistani literature. He has written several short stories having divergent morals and code of life. The title of this story is self-explanatory and has direct link with the “myth of Sisyphus”. The cunning and evil character in Greek mythology who was punished for his evil plots and dis-obedience. He was awarded with the endless labor in a way that he has to roll the stone up on the cliff and when the stone reaches the cliff, it rolls back due to its weight.

This was endless labor and Mr. Tariq has dexterously used this title burden of Sisyphus for the protagonist “Zebi” whose story reflects the myth of Sisyphus.

Brief Summary of “The burden of Sisyphus”:

The short story revolves around a protagonist" Zebi" who falls in love With a " dagger " and he left no stone unturned in purchasing that dagger but his obsession for dagger went fruitless as the price of dagger kept increasing with the passage of time. At last, he gave up and life passes swiftly unhampered.

After few years he got married and blessed with a child.  After several years, his son also liked the dagger of the same kind with whom his father fell in love with. But his father scolds him and leave the shop by saying". No, time and money for such childish stuff".
