Formal Application Format in English

The formal letter is written for business or professional purposes with a specific objective in mind. It uses simple language, that can be easy to read and interpret.

A formal letter is any letter written in the professional language, with a prescribed format for a formal purpose, i.e. it can be a recommendation letter, enquiry letter, complaint letter, cover letter and so on. All business letters are formal, but vice versa is not possible. Such letters are used for a variety of reasons like a formal invitation, proposal, reference, making a complaint or inquiry, applying for a job. While writing a formal letter one should keep in mind the following things:

• It should be in specified format.
• It should avoid the use of unnecessary words.
• It should be straight to the point.
• It should be relevant and objective.
• It should be complex and thorough.
• It should be polite, even if it is a complaint letter.
• It should be free from any mistakes, i.e. grammatical or spelling.

Sir,

      It is stated with due respect that dwellers of this developing city Lahore are in shock and awe due to yesterday's incident when armed robbers deprived a family from hefty amount of money, dignity and a daughter. The family was travelling in a car when armed robbers opened fire on them and compelled them to park car in isolated place where they subjected the family to robbery and kidnapped a girl of that family. The heart wrecking reality is that these kind of news are printed daily on our city newspaper as these incidents occur on daily basics. These horrific incidents haunt victims and instill fear in the heart and mind of listeners. The ratio of street crime is augmenting and regretfully, law enforcement agencies are not taking serious measures to curtail this menace of street crime. Moreover, news about expansion of drug cartel in our city has exacerbated the already deteriorating conditions. Youngsters are abusing drugs and drug dealers are roaming freely in the city without any surveillance. Therefore, I request honorable DCO to take strict action against goons, thieves, drug dealers and bike gangsters who perform street crimes on daily bases. I hope competent authorities would consider my application and start operation to retrieve the lost peace from this city Lahore.
