Pakistan is a developing country. Pakistan in among those countries where the literacy rate is low. There are many reasons of it but the point of grief is that solutions are less than problems. The Economic Survey 2020-21 has revealed that the literacy rate in the country remains stagnant at 60 percent and education-related expenditures witnessed a decrease of 29.6pc in the year 2019-20. It means 40 percent of the population is illiterate. If you talk about the causes then there are several reasons of the low literacy rate in Pakistan.

Poverty: Poverty is a main reason of it.
Increased population: Population of Pakistan is increasing at higher level.
Lack of educational facilities:
Corruption.
The survey also said the literacy rate was higher in urban areas (74pc) than rural areas (52pc).
In cities, people have more educational facilities than rural areas. In rural areas, people lack awareness and due to their prior ignorance, they don't want to get attention in the study rather than study they believe upon struggle in fields. Especially women of villages deprived of education.
The literacy rate of women in Pakistan is less than then literacy rate of men.
The impact a high literacy rate for women can have is enormous. In Pakistan, the current literacy rate for women, officially, stands at around 47 percent. Many believe it is actually considerably lower than this. There are also fewer girls enrolled in schools, even though this number has risen sharply over the last two decades, and more girls drop out of schools at the primary or secondary levels, compared to boys. Very few go on to acquire higher education.
Solutions to improve the educational system in Pakistan

Awareness:
Awareness among people regarding benefits of study is very important. There are very wrong concepts people have in their minds like it's a waste of time. Instead of study they can work to help their family. So they must be guided and encouraged so that can learn the actual worth of study.
Government policies:
Government should take steps towards literacy rate especially in rural areas. They should help poor people financially in the form of scholarship. Zakat school system should be build in Pakistan so that those who cannot afford the expenses of study can get benefits as well.
High school in rural areas:
It is a main issue especially in Punjab and other rural areas. People don't allow their children especially girls to go in high schools. So, high school in each rural areas should be build so that many girls can get education except to marry in very less age. There are many girls who are compelled to be married in underage just because of ignorance.
Free educational systems:
Free educational facilities is a key solution in Pakistan. There are thousands of children who cannot afford the expenses of their study and left schools. They don't take admissions in higher school because their starved stomach didn't allow them to invest money on study. They left study after almost matric and work at factories.
They have a right to become successful but their financial situation snatch their dreams. So as a Pakistani they have a right to be helped.
Government should help these kinds of students. New generation is future of Pakistan and Pakistani Government should take suitable steps to secure their future.
